Hey! First one of these. I’ve been thinking about it, and I’ve decided to switch up my weekly blog format to feature my art. Every week, I’ll post the daily drawings I’ve made that week (Saturday to Friday), before collecting them more permanently in a page. I’ll also be talking about them and some of my feelings about the week. Basically, I decided that I wanted this site to focus more fully on my art, especially since long blog posts on random topics every week is getting to be a separate challenge in and of itself. I’m not working to become a professional blogger (which I don’t think is a job at this point), I’m working to be a professional artist one day. I hope you’ll stick around to check out these posts.
Thoughts about the week: I got a haircut Wednesday. I kept my bangs long, renewed my undercut, and got the sides and top cut short. I like it overall, but it’s early, so I’m getting used to it. The hair at the top is long enough that when this one lock decides to be unruly, I can feel it flop against my ear. It’ll take training.
I also found out that I’m being switched to shoes and accessories at work. From the sounds of it, they want someone who can whip the department into shape, so that’s kinda flattering. I’m honestly not excited about it at the moment because I have little experience working in shoes, and when I have gone over there, it’s given me anxiety to deal with all that. That said, it’s a physically smaller department, and it’s getting a lot of change and attention lately. Having more work areas under my belt will also help me with my goal of becoming a manager. Getting more entrenched in a day job is not what I want to do, but at the moment it’s necessary.
It’s getting close to time for my lease renewal, and it hasn’t arrived yet. I’m worried my rent is going to increase again, and this place isn’t worth it right now. What if I have to switch places? Is there anywhere I can go that’s both cheaper and worth renting? Could I find something before the deadline to renew? Moving is expensive. So I’m antsy about all that.
This week, I drew a bunch of pictures of a character of mine, FC Andres, who comes from the same suite of characters as Frankie, who you’ve seen me draw earlier in the month if you’ve been following on socials. FC is two people living in one body, Fabian and Castel. There’s an alien involved, unless I change their backstory. Their body is Castel’s, and their brain is Fabian’s. I have a picture this week about Fabian dealing with the dysmorphia she experiences being in a much larger, curvier body than she had before, and I’m thinking of ways to depict Castel struggling with having her mind in a different brain. Fabian could have ADHD, maybe? I hadn’t gotten that far in the past. I like them because their situation leads to equal amounts drama and comedy, and it’s fun to have a character to talk about feeling like you’re sharing a skin. I think in a dialogue, rather than a monologue, and often express conflicting feelings and impulses as each side of that dialogue. Fabian and Castel also have to learn how to share their space.
