This is a short story I put together a little while ago. It’s actually a second draft, with some updates on the art and a few narrative edits compared to the first. At the time, I wasn’t as sure or confident with digital art (not that I am now), and I did all the art with pencils and a light box before scanning it in for digital lettering. Looking at it now, it still has that unbalanced quality as a result. Working on this really motivated me to plan ahead more on how I want pages read, and to consider more concretely the needs of lettering while drawing. Doing everything myself, it was easy to assume I knew what I’d need and could figure out the rest later, and that wasn’t a good idea.
In terms of story, I thought this up after listening to You’re a Cad by the Bird and the Bee a few times on the store radio at work. It was fun to consider what kind of person would go along with the relationship I imagined, and what the actual relationship was. That core of the idea also gave me a better title for this short — I originally called it Full Circle, which…you know, was a place holder, but still.
